Four advantages of mineral cables

Because all the materials of mineral insulated cables are inorganic materials, it has some advantages that other cables cannot have. Made of copper and mineral insulation, mineral insulated cables are impossible to ignite, do not burn easily, and can still be operated in close proximity to flames. It is worth mentioning that mineral cables also have many advantages.

1. High operating temperature: Mineral insulated cables can withstand continuous operating temperatures up to 250°C. Moreover, in an emergency, the cable can be operated again in a short time at a temperature close to the melting point of the copper sheath (the copper sheath may melt at 1083°C).

2. Long life: The inorganic raw materials used in mineral insulated cables can ensure the application reliability, flame retardancy and service life of the cable.

3. Good explosion-proof performance: The high-width and compact insulation material in mineral insulated cables can prevent steam, gas and flames from passing between the equipment parts connected to the cable.

4. Small outer diameter: The outer diameter of mineral insulated cables is smaller than other cables with the same rated current. If the mineral insulated cable is completely immersed in water, the mineral insulated cable can be used again thanks to its seamless metal sheath.

5. High impact toughness: Mineral insulated cables are durable and can withstand damage from powerful mechanical equipment without affecting their electrical properties.

6. The cable has a larger carrying capacity: For cables of the same cross-section, mineral insulated cables transmit a higher current than other types of cables. In addition, mineral insulated cables can withstand the same load.

7. Higher short-circuit fault rating: At the same temperature, the short-circuit fault rating of mineral insulated cables is significantly higher than that of other types of cables.

8. Better grounding performance: For mineral insulated cables, a separate grounding wire is not needed. Since the commonly used copper sheath of this cable already functions as a grounding wire, it can provide good low grounding resistance. In terms of grounded sheath return (ESR) wiring, in a MEN (Multiple Grounded Neutral) system, the surface copper sheath serves as the ground and neutral electrical conductor.

9. Good corrosion resistance: The copper sheath of mineral insulated cables has high corrosion resistance. For most equipment, it does not require additional protection measures. In locations where the copper sheath of the cable is easily corroded by chemicals or where industrial pollution is severe, mineral insulated cables should be protected by a plastic outer sheath.
