Recently, the leading enterprise in the capacitor industry, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., released its fiscal second-quarter results for 2024, revealing a 14.7% year-on-year increase in consolidated revenue to 421.7 billion yen (approximately RMB 20.75 billion).

Both consolidated operating profit and consolidated net profit surged by 32.5% to 66.4 billion yen (approximately RMB 3.27 billion), marking the first growth in nine quarters. This robust performance is primarily attributed to the unexpectedly high demand for PC and AI servers, significantly boosting sales of Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs), with continuous orders and significantly improved capacity utilization rates.

Murata's President Norihiro Nakajima noted that the MLCC factory's capacity utilization rate reached 80% to 85% during the second quarter and is expected to further increase to 85% to 90% in the third quarter. Among the various departments, the Components Department stood out with a 20.8% year-on-year increase in revenue to 251.6 billion yen (approximately RMB 12.38 billion). Notably, capacitor sales (dominated by MLCCs) surged 20.0% to 203.3 billion yen (approximately RMB 10 billion), while inductor/EMI filter sales also jumped 24.2% to 48.3 billion yen (approximately RMB 2.38 billion).

The capacitor industry as a whole is also experiencing an upward trend. According to the research report "China Capacitor Industry Market Supply and Demand, and Key Enterprise Investment Evaluation Research Analysis Report, 2023-2028" published by Yanjingbizhi Market Research Network, the global capacitor market size reached approximately 44.2 billion yuan in 2023, up 3.27% year-on-year. It is anticipated that the global capacitor market will continue to grow steadily in the coming years. As the largest capacitor market globally, China has seen its industry size continually expand, with growth rates consistently surpassing the global average. In 2023, China's capacitor market size reached 127.4 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth rate of 0.47%. It is projected that this market size will continue to expand by 2025, particularly driven by the rapid development of new energy vehicles, consumer electronics, and industrial controls.

Technological innovation remains the core driving force behind the development of the capacitor industry. In recent years, significant breakthroughs have been made in capacitor-related technologies, with domestic enterprises investing heavily in the research and development of power capacitor materials and optimization of production processes, enhancing the stability and lifespan of power capacitors. With the application of digital and intelligent technologies, power capacitors are evolving towards intelligence and modularization, improving the operational efficiency and reliability of power systems. For instance, Shandong Kangrun Electric Co., Ltd. recently obtained a patent for an "Intelligent Capacitor with Capacitance Status Monitoring Function," which utilizes advanced technologies such as intelligent measurement and control modules to ensure the system is monitored 24/7, effectively preventing accidents.

Moreover, the development of new capacitors is continuously pushing the boundaries of traditional technologies, achieving higher energy density, power density, and longer lifespans. The application of new materials and processes has further reduced production costs, laying a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the industry.

Looking ahead, the capacitor industry is poised to embrace even broader development prospects fueled by the advancements in electrification, intelligence, and renewable energy. As an indispensable component in the electronic industry, the enhancement of capacitor performance and the expansion of its applications will directly propel technological progress and market growth in related industries. Leading enterprises in the capacitor industry, such as Murata Manufacturing, will continue to leverage their strengths in technological innovation and market exploration, guiding the industry towards higher levels of development.
