Preparation of magnesium oxide by gas-phase method: high-purity metal magnesium reacts with oxygen to form crystal nuclei, and then the particles continue to grow to obtain high-purity micro powder magnesium oxide. Crude raw materials containing over 80% (by weight) of magnesium oxide are dissolved in inorganic acids (sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid) in a molar ratio of 1:2 to produce magnesium salts of inorganic acids. Refine to remove impurities, perform pressure heating treatment under oxygen atmosphere, then wash, dehydrate, dry, and heat at 1100 ℃ for 1 hour to obtain high-purity magnesium oxide.
Magnesium oxide serves as a thickener in composite materials. Magnesium oxide improves the temperature resistance level of rubber and has a significant effect. Magnesium oxide can increase the adhesion performance with the metal skeleton and improve the roll wrapping performance of the mixed rubber; Magnesium oxide can be used as a vulcanizing agent in halogenated butyl rubber; Magnesium oxide is sometimes used as a filler. Magnesium oxide also has the function of absorbing free halogens that undergo thermal decomposition. Magnesium oxide is often used in alloy adhesives, such as in PVC or CM rubber materials, which can prevent sulfur deficiency in the product and is consistent with the mechanism of action of magnesium oxide in halogenated rubber.
Magnesium oxide powder is located between the electric heating wire and the pipe wall, used for insulation between the electric heating wire and the pipe wall. Meanwhile, magnesium oxide also has good thermal conductivity. However, magnesium oxide powder has strong hygroscopicity, so it needs to be treated with moisture-proof measures (modification of magnesium oxide powder or sealing treatment of electric heating tubes) during use. Magnesium oxide powder can be divided into two types based on the temperature range used: low-temperature powder and high-temperature powder. Low temperature powder can only be used below 400 ℃, usually through modified magnesium oxide powder. Magnesium oxide powder is granular, and the magnesium oxide powder used for electric heating tubes is composed of different thicknesses of magnesium oxide powder particles equipped in a certain proportion (mesh ratio).
