The shorty wetsuit and full wetsuits are used often by the users when they have water activities, such as surfing, diving, kayaking, swimming…ect. When should you use a shorty wetsuit or a full wetsuit? Some users may have this question.

Hereby, below is more information for reference :

The primary function of wetsuits is to help to preserve body heat by trapping a layer of water against the skin. This water is warmed by body heat and acts as an insulator. So won’t a full-body wetsuit provide better insulation than shorties?

Shorty Wetsuit VS Full Wetsuit

It is indeed true that a full-length wetsuit will provide better thermal insulation than a shorty wetsuit. Shorty wetsuits are best for warmer waters. A shorty wetsuit works best in water temperatures upwards of 72℉ (22℃) providing sufficient insulation to the body, which allows the users to stay in the water longer.

While for full wetsuits, they are preferred for cool waters or in the winter season. The users will be covered fully to be warm enough. Shorties are also easier to wear. It’s easy for the users to put on and take off the shorty wetsuit. But, the shorty wetsuit offers less protection to the arms and legs of the user from bumps, scrapes, and jellyfish stings. In this respect, the full wetsuit can perform better than shorty wetsuit.

In the end, there are two main factors: water temperature and personal preference. Choose the right wetsuit for yourself. No matter the full wetsuit or the short wetsuit, believe that they can help you to enjoy water activities.
