Characteristics of polyester
1. High strength, with a short fiber strength of 2.6-5.7 cN/dtex and a high-strength fiber strength of 5.6-8.0 cN/dtex. Due to its low hygroscopicity, its wet strength is basically the same as its dry strength. The impact strength is 4 times higher than nylon and 20 times higher than viscose fiber.
2. Good elasticity, with elasticity close to wool. When stretched by 5% to 6%, it can almost fully recover. The wrinkle resistance exceeds other fibers, meaning the fabric does not wrinkle and has good dimensional stability. The elastic modulus is 22-141cN/dtex, which is 2-3 times higher than nylon. Polyester fabric has high strength and elastic recovery ability, therefore, it is firm, durable, wrinkle resistant and iron free.
3. Good heat resistance, polyester has a relatively high melting point, but low specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity, so polyester fibers have higher heat resistance and insulation properties. It is the best synthetic fiber.
4. Polyester has a smooth surface, tightly arranged internal molecules, and lacks hydrophilic structures between molecules, resulting in low moisture regain and poor moisture absorption performance.
5. Good wear resistance, second only to nylon with the best wear resistance, better than other natural and synthetic fibers.
6. Good light resistance, second only to acrylic fiber. Polyester fabrics have better light resistance, and besides being inferior to acrylic, their sun resistance is superior to natural fiber fabrics. Especially behind the glass, the sun resistance is very good, almost on par with acrylic fiber.
7. Corrosion resistant, able to withstand bleaching agents, oxidants, hydrocarbons, ketones, petroleum products, and inorganic acids. Resistant to dilute alkali and not afraid of mold, but hot alkali can cause it to decompose.
8. Poor dyeability, but good color fastness and not easy to fade. Due to the lack of specific dyeing groups and low polarity on the polyester molecular chain, dyeing is more difficult and the dyeability is poor, making it difficult for dye molecules to enter the fiber.
9. Poor moisture absorption, with a stuffy and hot feeling when worn, and prone to static electricity and dust contamination, affecting aesthetics and comfort. However, it is very easy to dry after washing, and the wet strength hardly decreases, without deformation, and has good washability.
