Jute is a vegetable fiber, mainly produced in tropical countries, such as India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. It is widely used to make ropes, fibers, fabric, etc.
Jute felt is a fabric made of matted and compressed jute fibers, sometimes mixed along with other vegetable fibers or synthetic fibers. These fibers are directly obtained from the jute plant.
Jute felt is a material that can protect surfaces from extreme temperatures and is widely used as an insulator. Italso holds in a lot of moisture and is used widely to help the survival of plants and crops during the dry seasons.
India is the highest producer of jute in the world and is relatively cheap, and is 100% biodegradable, making it both an economical and sustainable material to use.
Jute comes from the Jute Plant (Scientific Name: Corchorus capsularis). Mature jute plants have their stalks harvested by hand. Then they are defoliated (The removal of grass and other weeds).
The stalks then undergo a process called retting. It is a process by which the non-fibrous material is removed from the stem and skin of the jute stalk. Retting softens the stalks, making it easier to separate the usable fibrous material from the unusable waste material by hand.
Once the stalks have been retted, the stalk becomes soft and silky string-like fibre and can be separated. Once these strings have been obtained, they are passed under a comb to loosen up the fibre.
Combining the jute strings will make it possible to spin the fibre into yarn. This process is usually done by hand, though some places have automated machines that can comb and spin the fibres all at the same time. This yarn is subject to various chemical treatments, for altering the texture of the jute, for dyeing it in a different colour, to provide fire resistance or water resistance. After undergoing the treatments, this yarn is sent to mills for the manufacturing of Jute Fibre.
Jute fabrics and felts are trendy in India, especially in the agriculture sector. Jute is also gaining popularity as a biodegradable material and a cheap and eco-friendly solution for insulation in cities.

Jute non-woven felt is also gaining immense attraction in cities across India as an aesthetic element. Some standard products manufactured using non-woven jute include carpets, rugs, tapestries, jute felt bags, etc.
India has many jute manufacturers and suppliers, and it can get overwhelming to pick one. Here are the top three manufacturers in the country:
Jute felt is a purely natural material made from the fibers of subtropical jute plants, which is characterized by excellent mulching and insulating capabilities. Growers use jute felt as protective covers for plant roots or tree trunks.
Jute felt is utilized in private and business sectors in the fields of home and garden, horticulture, and fruit growing.

Jute felt is made of jute - the bast fiber of a subtropical jute plant. It is a purely natural material which reduces its strength due to light, heat, and humidity until it decomposes over time.
